York Barbell 2nd Gen "Thick Hubs" Vintage Weight Plates

Commonly known as the York “Thick Hubs,” these plates first appeared in the late 1930s. Their hub and spoke design was a groundbreaking innovation that inspired future weights, including the iconic York Deepdish plates of the 1950s and many modern designs. The Thick Hubs were also the first to feature the term “Olympic Standard.” However, their oversized hubs often cracked or were damaged when put down forcefully. The 35 lb and smaller plates shared the same design as the ones from the “Tall Letters” set.
