REP® Open Trap Bar

REP® Open Trap Bar

Add variety to your training with the REP Open Trap Bar. It’s designed to place the weight directly in line with your center of gravity instead of in front like a traditional barbell. Its neutral handle placement makes deadlifting much less technique intensive, while its open design allows for a versatile range of movements like squats, lunges, and presses. The bar features an integrated deadlift jack that makes loading and unloading the bar easier, featuring plastic liners on the feet to protect your floors. The jack also acts as a counterweight to keep the bar beautifully balanced. Weighing in at 58.4lbs (not including the handles), the bar features a round tube frame which makes it comfortable to use as a cambered bar for both pressing and squatting. The frame features a 6” section of medium-light knurling to add grip when squatting. The textured matte black powder coat is not only sleek, but also provides an added level of grip. The REP Open Trap Bar features fully knurled, stainless-steel handles, except the Rotating Handles, which are steel with a hard-chrome finish. All patent-pending handles are not only removable, but also removable quickly. Choose the handles that will give you the best width inside the bar: Narrow (23”), Standard (25”), Wide (27.3”), Rotating (24.6"), or get multiple handles to switch up lifting angles and add versatility to your training. All the handles feature a 28mm diameter, while the rotating handles also feature a 38mm and 48mm handle. The bar's sleeves are plated with hard chrome, a durable premium coating that stands up against sliding plates on and off. The bar is also rackable. Even on wide, 49” racks, the bar will sit flush and secure. Leg day is coming! Are you ready?

One day, loading the basic trap bar pissed me off enough I finally upgraded to the open bar with wide handles. It’s well built and the knurling on the handles is sharp. The handles have a center mark but every once in a while I pick it up and it’s unbalanced, especially if I’m using straps. The loading jacks are great and also make it easy to store without accidental knock overs. It is a long bar and does take up some real estate. I can use it as a camber bar with the wide handles, but larger people would need to take the handles off. Lower pick height than a normal trap bar on the high side of the handles. My favorite use is for zerchers, lifting it off the jacks by the frame.

Is it even a home gym in the western United States of there isn't a rep open trap bar? Really solid piece overall. It's my preferred RDL bar as it somewhat mimics a DB RDL without needing 150+ lb DBs. I've also used it as a camber squat bar. My wife does all of her DLs with this bar.

I have this bar at my work gym. As far as a trap bar, the open design opens up a lot of variety. This is my favorite bar to do farmers walks with. One thing to note is the width of the handles that you want. The ones we have seem a little too wide for my liking. Overall a great specialty bar.

Having a Rep Open Trap Bar in the home gym has become practically a meme. I have also fallen into owning one. I just couldn’t afford not to. In all seriousness, this thing is great as an open trap bar. They do claim a bunch of extra features and movements, like interchangeable handles and using it as a camber bar for squat and press. All of those things are possible, but not something that I have ever found myself going through the effort to set up. It is very large and heavy so getting into position would be challenging. The bolt for the handle isn’t crazy hard to change out, but I would not call say it is something I have any interest in doing during the workout with the intention to put it back when I am done for to swap for a different feel between exercises. The only thing I could see myself doing is adding on the wide handles to mimic a wider handle frame carry for a strongman comp that has that as an event. I would only add those while I have the prep for that event and then would go back to the handles that fit me best (narrow). I do hear great things about the Kabuki deadlift bar, but I have not gotten my hands on it. I could see myself switching if I liked the kabuki enough, and could even kind the kabuki. I also hear Eleiko did a great job on their open trap bar, but that would only be something I would consider after a few times getting hands on it and finding it used for a really good deal.

One of the nicest open trap bars you can buy. There's a lot you can do with this bar from traditional deadlifts, to many more movements bc of the open design. The handles are also removable, the bar is rackable, and there is some light knurling on part of the bar so you can press or squat with it as well. They offer several different handles which they advertise as being easy to swap out, but I haven't found that to be the case for myself. I think you're better off buying one set of handles and just sticking to those. The biggest downside to this bar is that it's extremely heavy and awkward, so storing or setting up for some may be difficult.
