Kabuki Strength ShouldeRok

Kabuki Strength ShouldeRok

More than just a simple rehab/prehab or mobility tool, the Kabuki Strength ShouldeRök™ can help produce significant long term effects for any strength athlete—developing the muscles around the complex shoulder joint (the body’s most flexible joint) for higher PRs and reduced injury risks. This unique steel apparatus—created by pro powerlifter Chris Duffin—is similar in design to classic swinging clubs like the Macebell or Gada. With this modern update, though, the science of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization led to some key changes, including a longer shaft for maximum balance and a non-fixed, easy-load club head for quick weight changes between multiple athletes.

I have the black travel version, which splits in two and came with a fancy case I never use. Likely over kill for a mace, but the swings are great for my shoulders. Both me and my much taller husband can swing inside the garage, in the right spot. Some oxidiation of the black coating at the threads, I’ve had WD-40 them a couple times to get the handle apart. Hard to say if that’s more due to the periods of low use and minimal climate control or the build quality.

The ShouldeRok is an amazing tool to have in your arsenal for offset and rotational work. I utilize mine routinely for anti-rotation/loaded dead bugs, offset back extensions, and offset RDLs. I keep a 2nd one in the house for mobility and IASTM work.

I found it for cheap on FBMP and I didn’t have anything from Kabuki in the gym prior so I picked it up. I had a single vertical wall mount barbell holder I put it in and it basically hasn’t come out since. When I first got it I sliced my finger on the threads very bad and almost needed stitches. Even if you have enough space indoors to use it, you won't feel confident that you won’t smash into something. I understand the intent behind the product, but I don’t find much benefit that I can’t get from plate halos. I will say it was the first time I got my hands on kabuki knurling and that has made me want their power bar. It looks cool in my gym so I’ll keep it, but I don’t recommend it for 99% of people.

I bought this on Black Friday back in 2015 or 2016 and that was prob the last time I used it. Hard to use indoors regardless of ceiling height and my bright zinc version oxidized almost immediately.
