45LB Ohio Power Bar - Bare Steel

45LB Ohio Power Bar - Bare Steel

Precision crafted for an old school feel, the bare steel Ohio Power Bar excels in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. The 29MM shaft provides minimal flex for maximum stability and is paired with a deep knurl crafted for heavy pulls. With no coating on this version of the Ohio Power Bar, the feel of the knurl is left just how it was intended. Every Ohio Power Bar is precisely machined and assembled in Columbus, OH using US steel that is proven ideal for heavy powerlifting. We combine a 205,000 PSI tensile strength, low flexion shaft, IPF powerlifting knurl marks and our signature Ohio Power Bar knurling. The knurling is machined in a pattern that is deep and coarse, providing an ideal surface for heavy pulls without being sharp or abrasive. Additionally, it features a matching center knurl that adheres to your back when you need it most.

I had an Ohio Power Bar in bare steel as my daily driver for several years with no rust in my basement gym. It is a great bar, with solid knurling and is more than good enough for 99% of people. Compared to a Texas Power Bar probably comes down to personal preference. I only got rid of mine because I won an American Barbell Stainless Steel Chewy Bar. The chewy bar is objectively better but I would never actually pay that much for that improvement.

Bought a bare steel boneyard bar for $150. No rust after 2 years in the garage. Knurling is very aggressive, to the point that I think the shaft could actually be from an aggro bar. Sturdy bar and good deal if you can get a used one or boneyard version. I prefer a Texas powerbar over it, but it’s nice to have both options.

Grabbed one off of marketplace, still new in the tube and wrapped in the blue plastic for $100! Expecting it to get that beautiful patina over time while I take care of it with my barbell rescue brush. Love my bare steel bars! Even brand new this bar is a great value. I prefer this to the classic Texas Power Bar because it has less whip/bounce when squatting heavy. And it has less aggressive knurling. I find the knurling of the Texas bars to be a bit more than I like most times.

Can’t beat this bar for the price, I love the knurling and bare steel is my preference for a barbell.

This is a proven barbell. This was may daily driver for a long time until the Texas 29mm Power Bar came out. The knurling is grippy, but I would not call it aggressive. My bar has not oxidized or rusted in the 7 years of being in my basement and used weekly.

I added one of these to my gym when I found a good deal on a "like new" used bar. The build quality is excellent and so far the bare steel seems to be holding up well in the varying temperatures of my garage. After extensive amounts of time using Texas Power Bars, the knurling on the OPB feels a bit passive in comparison but it is still a good knurl. The Texas bar would be my preference but I couldn't blame anyone for picking up one of these especially when the retail is under $300.
